Hey my friends! I hope you are doing well today! I’m really excited to share my next completed crafty project with you. Every month, my BFF and I complete a sewing project together and for September, we chose to make infinity scarves.
About the Monthly Sewing Projects
So, after we decide on what we want to make, we’ll pick a YT video tutorial with the pattern. And, that’s how we make our item. I’m very visual and so reading a pattern is difficult, I have to see it being made in action to understand it.
Also, we only try to make a quantity of 1 item, but because I’m still so new to sewing, I like to make a prototype just so I understand the pattern before I make the real thing. In this case, the first scarf I made I messed up and ended up making a mobius scarf instead. Years ago, I crocheted a mobius wrap that you find all about it here.
The scarf is still very, very pretty but that’s not what the pattern was so I knew I had to make a 2nd one.
In order to really understand the pattern, I took help from 2 separate YT videos that you can watch here and here.
I figure I divided this post into 3 sections so I can detail each scarf individually and also share pics! Here we go!
Buy first…where did all this Fabric come from?
Another wonderful and close friend and business partner, Kimberly McGuiness, artist and owner of Kimberly McGuiness Art & Design, gave me 2 boxes full of fabric for my 62nd birthday last month! She has been such a great friend, a gifted artist and an avid sewist! When I got the boxes and saw all the pretty fabrics, I knew right away I had to start using them! And all the scarves in this post were made from her boxes of fabrics. Now, let me get into each scarf:
Black/White Pattern Scarf
This was the first one I made where I went wrong. I started with piecing together 4 fat quarters of the black/white fabric. You’ll notice each segment is a different pretty pattern that I paired strategically so that the black dominate pieces were in between the white dominate pieces. I think this gives the overall look striking!
So, I followed the pattern in the first YT video link above and all was well until after I had made a sort of “tube” piece (which is basically what an infinity scarf is). Well, I didn’t pull it from the bottom of the fabric straight up in order to sew it so that it would be a straight infinity scarf. Instead, I pulled the fabric, not straight up through the tube, and instead twisted it somehow.
Didn’t realize my mistake and so, I sewed that piece together with a 1/2″ seam allowance so that I could turn the scarf right side out. That’s when I noticed the error. However, I was too exhausted to go seam ripping! I sewed the small opening closed where I pulled the fabric right side out and decided it would be a mobius scarf!!
However, I was bummed because the idea of the monthly sewing project is to follow our pattern as it is written, so I knew I had to try again…
Pink Infinity Scarf
For this scarf, I was determined to figure out what I did wrong. I picked 5 pink fat quarters for this scarf. (I’m sorry I don’t have exact measurements because I forgot to do this and write it down). After picking out the pieces, I sewed them together just like the 1st scarf.
Then, I found the 2nd YT video tutorial link from above and watched the last part carefully. I think she went a bit slower but I could see that she pulled from the bottom of the tube straight through, lined up the seam, sewed it leaving a small opening.
When I did that, my scarf was not twisted and so I turned it right side out, sewed the opening closed and my scarf was finished. I was so proud of myself! And, I got so pumped that I made my 3rd one!
Flower “Happy Colors” Scarf
This scarf was made with 3 fat quarters and I thought the patterns (though not the same) were close enough to work well together. I followed the same procedure as in the pink scarf and now I have 3! Here’s pics of all them!

I didn’t take more of the flowery scarf on its own, I may have to go back and do that to update this post. By the time I finished this project, took the pics, edited them, I was fried! But, nevertheless I learned some valuable lessons:
- 🧵 Mindset matters – When I sit down to sew, I need to be fully present. If my mind is busy or distracted (like it was when I started the black & white scarf), mistakes can sneak in. Sewing goes smoother when I’m calm and focused.
- 🎥 Find the right teacher – If a YouTube video isn’t clicking, I remind myself it’s okay to look for another one. Every creator explains things differently — some go a little too fast for me, others are more detailed. The right video can make all the difference. Plus, I’m learning all the how-to’s, some videos are meant for more experienced sewists.
- 🌸 Keep creating – I have to remind myself: I can sew, I can learn this! I won’t give up. Looking at the successful projects I’ve already made keeps me motivated and reminds me I’m capable of making beautiful things.
Overall, I am so happy with my 3 scarves and they hang proudly behind me in my craft space. One day when I get another dress form, I can have her model my garments!
