Dollar Tree Dish Drying Mats Turned into a Fall Pillow

Dollar Tree Dish Drying Mats Turned into a Fall Pillow

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Hi friends! I’ve got a short and sweet post today because this project came together so quickly! ✨

I’ve been wanting to make more of my own Fall décor, so when I popped into my local Dollar Tree, I had my eyes peeled for Autumn placemats to turn into pillows. Sadly, the shelves were empty. A couple weeks later, I tried again—still no placemats—but I did spot one last Fall-themed dish drying mat. I already had one at home, so I scooped it up right away! 🙌

At first, I wasn’t sure if two drying mats could really be sewn into a pillow with my Brother XR3774 sewing machine. They’re pretty thick! But after a little Googling (and some encouragement from AI 😉), I decided to go for it. I attached my walking presser foot, loaded orange thread into both the needle and bobbin and started sewing! 🧵

With right sides together, I stitched about a ½” seam allowance all the way around, leaving a small opening for stuffing. To my delight, my machine handled it beautifully! I was thrilled.

Next, I stuffed the pillow generously with Polyfil and hand-stitched the opening closed using an invisible ladder stitch (I doubled the thread since the material was heavy). In no time—about 30 minutes total—my pillow was ready!

The pattern shows beautifully on both sides since I used two mats. It’s soft, squishy and looks perfect on our recliner. I’m in love! 💛 And yes—Dollar Tree dish drying mats can make fabulous pillows. I’ll definitely be on the hunt for Christmas and Winter designs to whip up more of these cozy cuties for the holidays. 🎄❄️

That’s all for today’s post, friends—thanks for reading! 💌
